Philadelphia police are appealing to the public for help identifying and locating two suspects wanted for the brutal assault and battery of a man on Broad Street last month. In this article we talk about Philly Police Seek Pair After Brutal Broad Street Assault.
On June 19th, 2024 at approximately 11:56 pm, the victim was walking along the 2600 block of North Broad Street in North Philadelphia. Surveillance cameras captured two male suspects approaching the victim from behind near the intersection of Broad Street and Westmoreland Avenue.
Severe Head Trauma Sustained in Surprise Attack
According to NBC, without provocation or words exchanged, the first suspect punched the victim in the head causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the concrete. The second suspect then kicked the victim in the head multiple times as he lay motionless on the ground.
The victim sustained severe head trauma including a traumatic brain injury, skull fractures and bleeding in and around the brain. He was transported to Temple University Hospital for emergency neurosurgery and treatment. His current condition has not been released.
Police Seek Public Assistance to Identify Suspects
The Philadelphia Police Department has released surveillance footage of the attack and photos of the suspects taken earlier that evening in attempts to identify and apprehend them.
The first suspect is described as a male with a thin build and dark complexion. At the time of the assault he was wearing all dark clothing including a hooded sweatshirt with a white protective face mask.
The second suspect is described as a male with medium build and light complexion. He was wearing a blue baseball hat, black t-shirt, black shorts with white stripes down the sides and black sneakers with white soles.
Investigators are appealing to local residents and business owners to come forward if they recognize these individuals or have any additional video evidence related to this incident.
Demands for Justice
The Philadelphia police chief has formed a task force to develop solutions, but stresses that substantial, systemic changes will take time. He implores residents to remain vigilant, travel in groups whenever possible, and report any suspicious or unlawful activity.
In the meantime, police urge anyone with information related to this brutal assault and battery to contact the tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous.
