In the early morning hours of Friday, May 10th, a brazen thief used a hammer to smash open the front window of a Main Street boutique in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia. Surveillance cameras captured clear footage of the culprit, described by Philadelphia Police as a man in his 40s with a salt and pepper beard, casually approaching the storefront display just after 2 AM. In this article we talk about Philadelphia Thief Caught on Camera Smashing a Storefront in Manayunk and Stealing High-End Purses.
After briefly scoping out the locked storefront, the man is seen on video pulling a hammer from a bag he had been carrying. He proceeds to violently swing the hammer at the window several times, shattering the glass. As shards of glass fall around him, the thief then reaches into the compromised display, stealing several high end designer purses valued at nearly $5,000 retail.
With two expensive purses in hand, the robber pauses to survey the scene before taking the hammer to the damaged window once more to provide himself access to steal additional merchandise. As a car drives slowly by the scene of the active crime, the brazen thief grabs a third purse from the ransacked display.
Police Seek Public Assistance Identifying Manayunk Smash and Grab Suspect
The Philadelphia Police Department has circulated the surveillance footage of the Manayunk theft in hopes that the public can assist in identifying and locating the perpetrator.
Despite committing a risky crime in a public place in the wee hours of the morning, the thief’s face is clearly visible in the video released by police. In addition to the clear shot of his face, the suspect’s choice of attire also distinguishes him. Along with wearing nondescript gray sweatpants and blue sneakers, the robber sported a pair of dark gloves and a notable Calvin Klein baseball cap. The video shows the cap has a large “CK” logo stitched on the back, making it a recognizable detail.
Identifying the Thief’s Locale Based on Apparel
Investigators have deduced the thief likely lives somewhere in the Philadelphia area based on his clothing. In addition to the branded hat, he wore a dark zip-up jacket with “New Balance” embroidered on the sleeve and gray New Balance brand sneakers. Police believe someone in the public is likely familiar with the individual and may recognize these distinctive items of clothing.
By utilizing such clear surveillance footage and still shots, Philadelphia Police hope prompting the public’s cooperation will lead to an identification of the brazen thief. Once a suspect is identified, investigators can proceed with apprehension and prosecution. However, for now, they are warning the public not to approach the individual if spotted, as he has already shown a willingness to use violence. I sincerely hope you find this “Philadelphia Thief Caught on Camera Smashing a Storefront in Manayunk and Stealing High-End Purses?” article helpful.
