According to NBC Philadelphia, the deadly incident unfolded around 4:30 pm on Saturday, near the intersection of New Castle Avenue and East Water Street. The Dover Police Department received reports of gunfire in the residential area and immediately responded.

Victim Pronounced Dead at Hospital

Upon arriving at the shooting scene, officers found 29-year-old Jonair Pollard suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The Dover man was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Memorial Day Weekend Homicide Investigation

With a holiday weekend homicide on their hands, Dover detectives quickly worked to identify potential suspects and a motive behind the broad daylight shooting. Their investigation centered on 59-year-old William Mills as the alleged perpetrator based on evidence recovered at the crime scene.

Suspect Arrested Without Incident

Less than 24 hours later, members of the Dover Police Department’s Special Operations Response Team successfully took Mills into custody without further incident on Sunday. The circumstances and location of his apprehension were not disclosed by officials.

Mills is currently being held at a Dover correctional facility on $250,000 cash bail while facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in relation to Pollard’s shooting death.
