According to Business Treaveler, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton route kicks off on August 6th, while the Wilmington service begins on October 7th. These new options join American’s existing Landline bus routes from PHL to Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) in New Jersey and Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in Pennsylvania.

Seamless Connections and Unparalleled Convenience

American’s Landline partnership provides travelers with a truly seamless experience. Passengers begin their journey at the regional airport, clearing security as usual. They then board a luxurious motorcoach bus equipped with just 35 premium leather seats for a comfortable ride to PHL.

Upon arrival at Terminal F, they can proceed directly to their connecting gate – no need to deal with security again. Checked bags are also transferred seamlessly behind the scenes to the final destination.

“This new service will provide local residents access to American’s global network, including convenient one-stop service to more than 100 destinations around the world via our Philadelphia hub,” said Joe Sottile, American’s director of short-haul network planning.

A Luxury Ground Experience

The Landline coaches rolling out for these new PHL routes deliver an exceptional ground experience on par with American’s premium air cabins. Seats are configured in a spacious 2-1 layout with 36 inches of pitch, power outlets, and free Wi-Fi.

Schedules are timed for maximum connectivity too. From AVP, there will be four daily bus departures spanning early morning to evening. The journey to PHL takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes each way.

The Wilmington route offers even more frequency for passengers, with six daily roundtrips. These trips cover just 50 miles in under an hour between ILG and the Philadelphia airport.

Leaders from the regional airports are enthusiastic about the new service and its potential to drive more traffic through their facilities.

“Being able to start your trip from AVP and connect through Philadelphia alleviates some of the stress when starting your travel from a larger airport,” noted Carl R. Beardsley, Jr., Executive Director at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

Meanwhile, Thomas J. Cook, Executive Director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority which manages ILG, stated: “If you’re looking for quality service without the big city airport hassles associated with parking, check-in, or security screening, the American Airlines Landline connection service at ILG is for you!”

Meeting Shifting Regional Travel Demands

The expansion of Landline also reflects American’s efforts to adapt to changing dynamics in the U.S. regional airline industry. A pilot shortage since the pandemic, fewer small aircraft in fleets, and increasing consumer interest in sustainable ground transportation for shorter journeys are all factors at play.
