According to NBC 10, Officer Paul Moore, a 6-year veteran assigned to the 22nd District, shot the 31-year-old dirt bike rider after he allegedly pulled out a firearm when officers attempted to confiscate his vehicle. The unidentified suspect is currently in stable condition and in custody pending charges.

The Traffic Stop and Officer-Involved Shooting

On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a tip from a police helicopter unit regarding a dirt bike rider recklessly operating his vehicle in traffic near North 6th Street and West Somerset Street. Officers Moore and his partner arrived on scene to find the 31-year-old suspect next to his dirt bike.

When informed his vehicle would be confiscated due to illegal operation, the suspect became angry and reached for his concealed weapon, investigators said. Officer Moore attempted to disarm the man but was unsuccessful. Fearing for his and his partner’s safety, Moore then fired multiple shots, striking the suspect.
